PAL Robotics

PAL Robotics design and manufacture highly integrated and reliable solutions for service industries and research institutions worldwide. We help our clients integrate robotics into their organisations, fully adapted to their project and business needs.PAL Robotics started in 2004, when a small group of engineers built the first fully autonomous humanoid biped robot in Europe. With over 15 years experience in R&D, today we are known for our humanoid robots REEM-C, TALOS, TIAGo and ARI, as well as our retail and manufacturing solutions, StockBot and TIAGo Base. Our mission is to enhance people’s quality of life through service robotic and automation technologies. Robots are able to make a difference by collaborations with humans, providing support for domestic tasks and increasing efficiency in industrial workflows. PAL Robotics is one of the founding members of the euRobotics Association. We are also involved in numerous collaborative projects including EU-funded research projects.

Specific Tehcnological Aspects
PAL Robotics started in 2004, when a small group of engineers built the first fully autonomous humanoid biped robot in Europe. With over 15 years of experience in R&D, today the company is known for humanoid and mobile robots used for research, logistics, retail and social applications in companies, institutions and labs. PAL Robotics’ research has led to the creation of several biped and wheeled humanoid robots. Today the company is focused on: ● Bipedal legged humanoid robots for R&D - such as TALOS and REEM-C ● Independent autonomous mobile robots for logistics and retail robotics for inventory tracking and data collection - such as TIAGo Base and StockBot ● Mobile manipulators for assistive and industrial applications - such as TIAGo ● Social humanoid robotics for interaction with people, ambient assisted living and use in public spaces - such as ARI. PAL Robotics also offers a range of robotic components - including actuation modules, robotic arms, and mobile bases along with software, i.e. navigation and manipulation software. The company develops customizable, tailor-made platforms and modular robotic parts and is focused on the design and development of advanced robotics platforms, whose main features are: Modular design both in hardware and in software Active and passive safety A hardware abstraction layer with open interfaces ROS (Robot Operating System) framework is fully supported Realistic 3D dynamic simulation Whole-body control capabilities Extensive documentation and tutorials Our Software Expertise: Cyber Security Navigation Human-Robot Interaction Manipulation Visual Perception Walking
R+D Projects

Project 1

Name: EUROBENCH
Web: https://eurobench2020.eu/
Summary:

EU project EUROBENCH aims to create the first benchmarking framework for robotic systems in Europe. The framework will allow companies and researchers to test the performance of robots at any stage of development. The project is focussed on bipedal machines, i.e. exoskeletons, prosthetics and humanoids, but is designed to be easily extended. PAL Robotics’ REEM-C is being adapted to participate in this project.

Project 2

Name: CANOPIES
Web: https://www.canopies-project.eu/
Summary:

EU project CANOPIES aims to develop a Human-Robot prototype in crop farming (Agri-Food) that addresses the challenges of Human-Robot Interaction and Human-Robot Collaboration. An integrated system composed of farming robots and logistics robots operating within a table grape vineyard on both harvesting and pruning, will be used to demonstrate the project approach. PAL Robotics will manufacture the upper-body dual arm agronomic system and the agronomic end-effectors for the CANOPIES robotic prototype starting from our TIAGo++ robot platform.

Project 3

Name: Open DR
Web: https://opendr.eu/
Summary:

The main goal of the Open DR project is in harnessing deep learning to provide advanced perception and cognition abilities in robotics. The PAL Robotics' robot TIAGo is being used in this project. Work will focus on enabling incorporated human presence recognition, activities and vocal instructions as well as emotional states to enable a person-centric human interaction in robotics. The aim is to be able to use these robotic applications in areas such as healthcare, agri-food and agile production.

Project 4

Name: SHAPES
Web: https://shapes2020.eu/
Summary:

The project aims to create an environment that supports deployment of digital solutions to support healthy and independent living for older individuals. As part of the project PAL Robotics is adapting ARI to help with mobility and/or rehabilitation exercises and engage in social activities in user homes. SHAPES will create a platform that integrates smart digital solutions as well as providing personalized solutions. The goal of the project is to bring greater efficiency that increases health care and provision across Europe.

Project 5

Name: SeCoIIA
Web: https://secoiia.eu/
Summary:

Project SeCoIIA (Secure Collaborative Intelligent Industrial Assets) is focussed on aeronautics, automotive and naval construction, and a secure digital transition of their manufacturing processes. New technologies bring with them new risks involving the field of security and machine-based decision making. During the SeCoIIA project pilot users will assess 12 main capabilities through three demonstration campaigns. PAL Robotics is contributing to the aeronautic and naval use cases, which includes working with Airbus and Naval Group. Our robot TIAGo is taking part in these use cases.
